Iran launched two ballistic missiles at the joint U.S.-British base on Diego Garcia Island, located 4,000 kilometers from the country.

The Hill reported on this.

This attack exceeded the range that Iran officially claims to have (up to 2,500 km). Despite this, the first missile malfunctioned and broke apart mid-flight, while the SM-3 anti-missile likely intercepted the other target. The media notes that Iran likely carried out the attack using a new version of the Khorramshahr missile.

On March 20, it was reported that the United Kingdom had authorized the United States to use its air bases for strikes against Iranian targets linked to attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.

As early as March 1, the day after the start of joint U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran, U.S. forces were permitted to use the Royal Air Force bases at Fairford in Gloucestershire and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean for “defensive” strikes.

The U.S. planned to direct these strikes against Iranian targets that had attacked British personnel and allies in the region. At the same time, the government emphasized that the United Kingdom would not take direct part in the operations.

“The principles of London’s approach to the conflict remain unchanged,” officials noted, emphasizing the need for urgent de-escalation and a swift resolution to the war.

Militarnyi previously reported that Iran damaged a German field camp in Jordan during missile strikes on March 9.

Satellite images show a large crater at the Azraq base near a residential building. In addition to German troops, the camp is also used by American and Jordanian forces.

Muwaffaq Salti Air Base (also known as Azraq or Al-Azraq) is a military airfield of the Royal Jordanian Air Force, located in a desert area approximately 100 km northeast of Amman. The U.S. has long used it as a key hub in the Middle East.
