Nasser Kanaani, Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, responded to the accusations regarding the supply of Iranian drones to Russia.

Nasser Kanaani stated that cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation dates back to before the onset of the war in Ukraine.

He also said that “no specific development” came about recently in this regard.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s stance on the war in Ukraine is absolutely clear and has been declared time and again officially.

The news about the possible supply of Iranian drones to Russia indicates the difficulties of the Russian military in Ukraine. However, if the deal comes through, Russians might be receiving decent unmanned combat aerial vehicles and kamikaze drones.

Iranian drones had been previously used to attack military bases of the US and its allies in the Middle East, oil refineries, and other facilities. This unmanned combat aerial vehicle was seen in military conflicts in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq.

As previously reported, on July 11, Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser, said that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred unmanned aerial vehicles, including weapons-capable UAVs, on an expedited timeline.

“Our information indicates that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred unmanned aerial vehicles, including weapons-capable UAVs, on an expedited timeline,” said the national security adviser.

He informed that these drones were previously used by Iran-backed forces to attack Saudi Arabia.

In addition, according to Sullivan, the intelligence’s information further indicates that Iran is preparing to train the Russian forces to use these UAVs as soon as July.

According to him, it is not yet clear whether the Iranian side has started supplying these drones to Russia.

“We will continue to support the effective defense of Ukraine and help Ukrainians demonstrate that any Russian attempts to erase Ukraine from the world map will not be successful,” emphasized the adviser to the US President.
