Iceland purchased ten fuel trucks for the needs of the Ukrainian army for the defense support of Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
The country’s government announced this.
Two fuel trucks have already been delivered over the past week.
The transportation of petroleum products is critically important for the defense capability and mobility of the Ukrainian military in the face of Russian aggression.
“There is a great demand in Ukraine for fuel trucks that can transport fuel for the army, and the government (of Ukraine, – Ed.) has appealed to friendly states to help provide such vehicles,” the statement reads.
The government of Iceland promptly responded to the requests of Ukraine.
Contracts to purchase ten used gasoline trucks were concluded with a European supplier in this field.
The first two trucks were delivered last week, and the rest are due to arrive in the coming weeks.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland notes that since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, the country has focused on supporting Ukraine in accordance with its wishes and needs and its capabilities.
“We do not supply the Ukrainian army with weapons or other military equipment, but we can contribute by providing trucks to transport petroleum products, which are in significant shortage, and be quick when the need arises,” said Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, Iceland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The total value of purchasing trucks, their management, and delivery is €400,000.
Last year, Iceland handed over 12,000 units of winter uniforms to Ukraine. These included socks, underpants, merino wool sweaters, hats, winter gloves, shoes, and outerwear.
