The Hungarian Armed Forces have received the first Leguan 2HU armored vehicle-launched bridge.

The military’s press service reported this on its Facebook page.

In addition, the country received three more Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks.

The armored vehicles will be put into service with the 11th Tank Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade, based in Tata.

The newest German Leopard 2A7HU combat vehicles are replacing outdated Soviet-style T-72M1 tanks. Militarnyi reported on the previous receipt of such tanks in September last year.

The rearmament of the battalion should be completed by 2028. By this time, 44 Leopard 2A7HU tanks, 5 Wisent 2HU special vehicles, and 3 Leguan 2HU armored vehicle-launched bridges will arrive in Hungary. The corresponding contract with the German company KMW was signed in 2018.

The agreement, in addition to new tanks and special equipment, also included the supply of related equipment and 12 refurbished Leopard 2A4HU tanks from among those stored by KMW for training purposes. The total value of the contract is estimated at $565 million.

The German army also uses Leguan armored vehicles. According to them, it belongs to the MLC-80 class (load capacity of about 72 tons) and is designed to lay one 26 m long bridge in combat conditions, which allows overcoming water obstacles or land obstacles up to 24 m wide, or two separate bridges of 14 m in length.

The bridge is fully automated, operated by a single person protected by armor, and takes about 5 minutes to complete.
