The Hungarian Army has officially received the last of 44 Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks.
The completion of the delivery was marked by a solemn parade with the participation of the 1st Armored Brigade.
During the ceremony, the Hungarian Minister of Defence presented a special award to KNDS Hungary Kft. Ralf Ketzel, project manager Mario Gall and director of KNDS Hungary Kft. Peter Ulbrich, who is responsible for the maintenance and readiness of the tanks, were awarded.
According to the contract, the delivery of all systems was completed on time. In addition to the Leopard 2A7HU tanks, the contract covered the delivery of 24 PzH 2000 howitzers, three LEGUAN systems and five WiSENT vehicles.
The agreement also included the creation of a modern personnel training and simulation center.
The Leopard 2A7HU tanks are a special adapted version of the Leopard 2A7+ tank. The tank has improved protection of the upper turret projection and a new PERI RTWL commander’s sight.
In addition, the delivered tanks have a platform for the installation of the FN Herstal RWS remotely controlled combat module. It is also known that the Hungarian version of the Leopard 2A7+ received a new fire control system.
