Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in an interview that he saw himself as part of a ‘historic and spiritual mission’ and was strongly committed to the concept of a ‘Greater Israel.’
He made these remarks during an interview with i24 News, as reported by The Times of Israel.
The concept of ‘Greater Israel’ includes territories designated for a future Palestinian state, as well as parts of present-day Jordan and Egypt.
The idea of ‘Greater Israel,’ or Eretz Yisrael HaShlema, first emerged after the 1967 Six-Day War and envisioned the inclusion of East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Golan Heights.
During the interview, interviewer Sharon Gal gave Netanyahu what he described as an amulet in the form of a ‘map of the Promised Land’ and asked if the Prime Minister felt a connection to the idea of Greater Israel. Netanyahu replied, “Very much so.”
Additionally, when asked whether he feels he is carrying out a mission on behalf of the Jewish people, Netanyahu said that he was “fulfilling a mission of generations – there are generations of Jews who dreamed of coming here, and there are generations of Jews who will come after us.”
Militarnyi previously reported that Israeli forces were preparing for a new ground operation in the Deir al-Balah area of the Gaza Strip.
