Ukraine received from Germany 6 additional BIBER bridge-laying tanks, Zetros trucks, camouflage nets, and first-aid kits.
The list of assistance provided to Ukraine was updated on the German government’s website.
The update included:
Zetros trucks are manufactured by Daimler AG. They are designed to work in extreme off-road conditions. The truck has a layout that provides quick access to the engine for its repair and better stability of the vehicle.
Zetros are used in the energy and oil production sectors, in construction, rescue operations, and for the transportation of passengers and goods in extreme conditions. The truck can be converted into a tow truck, crane, cradle, mobile generator, dump truck, fuel truck, etc.
Zetros is available in three modifications – Zetros 1833A (4×4), Zetros 2733A (6×6), and Zetros 2743A (6×6).
In July 2022, the German government announced that it would transfer 16 BIBER bridge-laying tanks to Ukraine. As of now, nine of them have been transferred.
A video of the equipment being used by the Ukrainian military was also released.
The Biber is a bridge-laying tank that carries and deploys cross-river bridges, anti-tank ditches, and other obstacles. A total of 105 of these vehicles were built for the German military.
Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Italy are also operating this equipment.
Biber is based on the Leopard 1 tank chassis. It is equipped with a bridge construction system instead of a turret. The bridge is laid horizontally, and the main advantage of this design is invisibility to the enemy.
The bridge has an aluminum structure and consists of two sections of 11 meters each. The total length is 22 meters and can cover an obstacle 20 meters long.
The bridge is laid within three minutes; in the transportation mode, the sections are moved over each other.
The vehicle’s crew consists of two people: the driver and the commander.
The published list of assistance also indicates that 300,000 Gepard SPAAG ammunition are expected to be transferred to Ukraine.
In mid-February, the Rheinmetall concern announced the start of 35-mm ammunition production.
Currently, Ukraine uses 32 Gepard SPAAGs, and the transfer of 5 more guns is expected.
