Germany will provide Ukraine with additional missiles for the Patriot air defense systems.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced this in his opening remarks at NATO headquarters in Brussels, as reported by The Guardian.
According to him, 30 surface-to-air missiles for the Patriot systems will be included in a new package of defense assistance for Ukraine.
In addition, Pistorius mentioned that Germany would provide Ukraine with four more IRIS-T air defense systems with missiles.
However, the minister did not specify whether those were the systems previously announced or if they were additional ones.
He also mentiones that today’s meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format will discuss Ukraine’s request regarding the production of missiles under license in Ukraine.
The missiles for the Patriot air defense systems will strengthen Ukraine’s air defense in the face of ongoing attacks from Russia.
Throughout 2025, Germany plans to supply the Ukrainian Defense Forces with 500,000 artillery shells.
This is approximately 130,000 more artillery shells compared to the forecast published at the end of February this year.
The Federal Ministry of Defence of Germany announced that it had planned to provide 370,000 artillery shells over the course of that year.
Meanwhile, in the first three months of 2025, Germany has already delivered 92,000 artillery shells, including 23,000 122 mm shells and 69,000 155 mm shells.
In March, the Budget Committee of the Bundestag approved about €11 billion in additional funds, which will be spent on providing military assistance to Ukraine. This amount includes over €8 billion allocated for military aid during 2026–2029.
