German Chancellor Olaf Scholz claimed that Germany will soon have the largest conventional army among the NATO countries.

Scholz believes that a planned special package of EUR 100 billion for the Bundeswehr is expected to significantly strengthen the German Armed Forces.
“Germany will soon have the largest conventional army among NATO countries in Europe,” Scholz said.
According to the Chancellor, this will significantly strengthen the country and its allies.
Yesterday, the German ruling coalition reached an agreement with the opposition conservative CDU/CSU bloc on the main details of setting up a special fund for the Bundeswehr, which would increase funding for the German military by EUR 100 billion.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced establishing a special Bundeswehr fund in the amount of EUR 100 billion on February 27 – after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This is part of NATO’s so-called 2% target, ie 2% of GDP for defense, which should be achieved in an average of several years.
Notably, the German Chancellor expressed bemusement at the criticism over the lack of military support for Ukraine, which is voiced inside Germany and abroad.
“We have delivered weapons to Ukraine and will deliver more in the coming days,” Scholz remarked, referring to the supply of heavy weapons that was agreed with the industry.
As previously reported, Germany plans to send the first Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns to Ukraine in July 2022.
This regards a batch of 15 units from the reserves of the German defense industry. The aid package includes approximately 60,000 shells.
