General Oleksandr Syrskyi named the losses suffered by the Russian military since the beginning of the Kursk operation.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the Russians lost a total of 17819 people.
According to him, 6662 people were killed and 10446 were wounded. Ukrainian troops also managed to capture 711 Russian soldiers.
These statistics begin from August 8 and extend to the present, as Ukrainian forces continue operations in the Kursk region.
“Despite the enemy’s fierce pressure in this area, the invaders are suffering significant losses in soldiers and military equipment,” stated Syrskyi.
Ukrainian troops are continuing active operations in the Kursk sector, destroying the enemy’s combat potential for the third month in a row.
The order to move to the Kursk region was given to Ukrainian forces by radio at dawn on August 6, 2024.
The quick breakthrough in the Kursk oblast was made possible by strict secrecy and actions without informing Western partners.
The Russian response is now being felt more strongly, and with the loss of the element of surprise, the Ukrainian advance has slowed.
Russia has reinforced its defense line with better-trained units, including marines and special forces.
In the first half of October, the Russian army launched an offensive in the Sudzhansky and Glushkovsky districts of the Kursk oblast, part of which had been captured by Ukrainian troops in August. On October 10, there were reports of significant advances by Russian troops and the threat of encirclement of some Ukrainian army units.
As previously reported, North Korean troops have already arrived in the Kursk oblast to participate in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
