The Ukrainian Defense Forces have withdrawn from their positions in the village of Siversk, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It is noted that intense fighting continues in the area of Siversk. The Russian occupation forces have an advantage in manpower and equipment and, despite significant losses, do not stop active offensive actions.
In order to save the lives of Ukrainian servicemen and maintain the combat capability of the units, a decision was made to withdraw from the settlement.
During the battles for Siversk, the Defense Forces inflicted significant losses on the enemy – every meter of urban development was costly to the enemy.
The invaders’ advance became possible due to numerical superiority and constant pressure from small assault groups in difficult weather conditions.
Despite this, the city remains under the fire control of Ukrainian troops.
The enemy units in Siversk are being hit by fire, logistics are being disrupted and blocked to prevent further advancement.
The General Staff emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to perform combat missions in the Sloviansk sector.
All necessary measures are being taken to reduce the offensive potential of the enemy’s forces and means.
According to the 81st Separate Air Assault Brigade of the 7th Air Assault Corps, the situation in the area of Serebryanka, northeast of Siversk, remains extremely difficult.
Units of the 81st Brigade are holding their positions and inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy. At the same time, Russian troops continue to attempt to transfer personnel across the Siversky Donets River from the Serebryany forestry.
As of December 9, partial control over half of the city of Siversk in the Donetsk region had been established.
The seizure of Siversk, which has been under battle for months, opens the way for Russian occupation forces to move towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
