The French army has ordered 530 Serval Appui SCORPION armored vehicles.

The French General Directorate of Armaments (DGA) stated that the delivery of those vehicles would be carried out in stages from the end of 2025 to 2031.

The Serval Appui SCORPION is adapted to combat operations and inherits the qualities of the Serval armored vehicle developed under the SCORPION program.

This order, worth more than a billion euros, is intended for KNDS, TEXELIS, MBDA and CS GROUP, all of which have facilities in France.

The investment is part of the Multipurpose Light Tactical Vehicle (VLTP) program.

Serval has a high level of mobility, protection, autonomy and modularity.

Back in 2021, France ordered 364 Serval armored vehicles. The contract was awarded to TEXELIS. A prototype of the armored vehicle was presented in 2018.

Thus, the new Serval Appui SCORPION will further strengthen the ground forces.

The armored vehicle can be made in an air defense version. For this purpose, the Mistral 3 anti-aircraft missile system is installed.

The vehicle can be equipped with a radar and a 30 mm cannon with specialized ammunition against drones.

The armored vehicle will also be equipped with access to the French Syracuse IV satellite for communication.

The Syracuse consists of two satellites in geostationary orbit (Syracuse 4A, launched in October 2021, and 4B, launched in July 2023) and a number of ground stations.
