The French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) has ordered Swedish-made AT4 anti-armour weapon.
The Saab, manufacturer of this weapon, reported about this.
Saab received an order in mid-December 2022. The order value is approximately € 24 million.
Deliveries of the anti-armour weapon AT4 will take place in 2023.
“We are proud to yet again be chosen to deliver our world class single-shot AT4 system to France. Our future ready AT4 will ensure the French armed forces have the necessary firepower to give them the advantage on the battlefield,” says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business area Dynamics.
France has previously ordered Saab’s AT4CS ER (Extended Range), the AT4CS HE (High Explosive) and the AT4CS AST (Anti-Structure). The AT4 family is known as Roquette NG (Nouvelle Génération) in France.
Currently, the AT4 is one of the most popular and successful man-portable, disposable anti-tank weapon in the world.
AT4 is a lightweight man-portable disposable weapon that is characterized by the ease of use by one fighter. There are several modifications of it, differing in the type of ammunition.
AT4 anti-armour weapons in various variants can help defeat tanks and heavy combat vehicles. It can also be used against threats in buildings and fortifications where enemy troops are hiding.
The main element of the anti-armour weapon AT4 is a 1,020mm long launch tube made of aluminum and fiberglass with a caliber of 84mm. Its maximum diameter is determined by external casings and protective elements and does not exceed 150mm. The weight ranges from 6.7 to 8 kg, depending on which projectile is used.
The muzzle velocity of grenades reaches 290 m/s. The effective firing range at an “armored vehicle” type target does not exceed 300 m. With an extended-range round, this distance is twice as long, and the high-explosive fragment round is fired at 1,000 m. In general, the maximum firing range is 2,100 m.
