The Ukrainian defense company Vyriy has developed its first ground drone, Dzhankoi.

This was announced at the Defense Tech Valley 2025 exhibition by Vyriy CEO Oleksii Babenko.

“This is a non-profit project. But it is impossible to win a war without robotic ground systems,” Babenko said.

The frontline needs thousands of ground robotic systems.

In order to do this, the company addressed to a Lviv engineer who had developed the initial design of a ground drone. Vyriy fully bought the project and began testing in the Kharkiv region.

However, the project turned out to be flawed: the drone often flipped over and lost its track. The company had to redesign all the components, except for the track, which the Lviv engineer created in Ukraine on his own – it turned out to be functional.

“This track weighs 40-45 kg, and after the drone was redesigned, it stopped ‘taking off.’ With it, it accelerates to a speed of 25 km/h,” said the company representative.

Dzhankoi will be supplied with Starlink satellite communications and the ExpressLRS remote control system, which allows the drone to be operated over long distances.

The company plans to integrate artificial intelligence into the drone, which will allow Dzhankoi to avoid obstacles and increase the speed of movement to the target. Dzhankoi will primarily be used for logistics and evacuation of the wounded.

Vyriy also plans to create a ‘drone-junior’ version, which will accommodate up to six drones on a fiber-optic system. Such a complex will be sent to the combat zone, where it will wait for a target to appear and engage the enemy with FPV drones.

In addition, an engineering version of Dzhankoi with a bucket for digging positions is being considered to minimize risks to personnel when deployed in unprepared areas. The company is also studying the possibility of installing a combat turret as the platform is large enough to mount large-caliber weapons.

Optimal characteristics:

  • Maximum load: 500+ kg
  • Range: 30-50 km
  • Maximum travel speed: 20+ km/h
  • Power plant type: electric motors 2×2800 W
  • Operating temperature: -20 °C to +55 °C
  • Overcomes obstacles: up to 32° incline
  • Types of communication: satellite, cellular (LTE), wireless (ELRS)
  • Navigation: GPS
  • Cameras: 2 twilight or 2 thermal cameras
  • Video type: digital/analog with infrared illumination
  • Dimensions: 124 × 210 × 80 cm, crawler
