Greek authorities detained four Chinese nationals near Tanagra Air Base after they were caught photographing military facilities, including Rafale fighter jets of the 114th Fighter Wing.
According to ProtoThema, the individuals were first approached by security personnel and instructed to leave the area.
However, they reportedly continued taking photos from a nearby bridge, ignoring warnings.
A state of high alert was declared at the base.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene, detained the four individuals, and brought them in for questioning.
A search of their belongings uncovered a large quantity of photographic material taken in the vicinity of the base.
Authorities are investigating the motive for the activity. One possibility under review is that the incident may be linked to a broader intelligence-gathering operation. Officials are examining whether the detainees were part of a coordinated network.
The case is being treated as a serious breach of national security.
The Greek Ministry of Defense has not issued a formal statement but emphasized its readiness to respond to any signs of espionage.
Greece recently completed delivery of 24 Dassault Rafale fighter jets, all stationed at Tanagra Air Base.
