Ukrainian Flamingo strategic cruise missiles carried out their first publicly documented salvo against targets in Russian-controlled territory.
The Telegram channel Nikolayevsky Vanyok published a video of the launch.
The footage shows three missiles launched from the Ukrainian coast at sunrise, rising one after another with the help of solid-fuel boosters.
The new weapon was first announced on August 17, when Associated Press photojournalist Yefrem Lukatsky posted the first images of the missile on his Facebook page.
According to available data, the Flamingo carries a 1,150-kilogram warhead and has a range of more than 3,000 kilometers. It is designed to resist Russian electronic warfare systems and can reach speeds of up to 950 kilometers per hour.
Less than nine months passed from development to combat use. Iryna Terekh, CEO and technical director of the manufacturer Fire Point, stated that the missile is already in mass production, with an output of approximately 200 units per month planned.
On August 21, 2025, the Associated Press reported that the current rate is one missile per day, but production is expected to rise.
On August 20, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the Flamingo tests were successful and that mass production would commence early next year. He added that the pace of the program depends directly on funding.
Terekh emphasized that the missile is a fully Ukrainian development and is manufactured without foreign components.
