Finland will send its contingent to Denmark to help counter drones that paralyze airports and fly over military installations.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced this decision on X.
He emphasized that Finland fully supports Denmark in its efforts to protect airspace and counter hybrid threats.
“To make this support specific, today Finland has decided to send a counter-drone contingent to Denmark. The Finnish Border Guard will also provide support with its own capabilities,” Stubb added.
According to him, this is “a great example of the specific cooperation between the Nordic countries that we need today.”
“In the future, we will continue to harmonize our approaches to countering hybrid threats and promote capacity building in Europe,” the Finnish president stated.
Earlier, France, Germany, and Sweden announced that they would send their military personnel and anti-drone systems to Denmark to strengthen the security of the EU summit, scheduled for October 1 in Copenhagen.
This comes after incursions by unidentified drones that forced the closure of several airports in the country.
Following the drone incidents, hundreds of reservists were notified to mobilize in response to the situation.
The Ukrainian military has also arrived in Denmark to share its experience in countering drones as part of the joint Defense Wings exercise.
In addition, the country has introduced a temporary ban on the flights of all civilian drones, which will be in effect until Friday, October 3.
Violation of the ban may result in a fine or imprisonment for up to two years.
