The European Union will provide military assistance to the Armed Forces of Armenia for the first time.
This decision was approved by the EU Council on Monday, July 22.
The €10 million assistance will be provided under the European Peace Facility (EPF). This is the first such decision for Armenia.
The purpose of this assistance is to strengthen the material and technical capacity of the Armenian army and to help improve the protection of civilians in crisis and emergency situations.
Also, with this support, Yerevan will be able to make its troops more compatible with Western troops, so that in the future it can participate in joint operations with the EU.
The support is also aimed at increasing Armenia’s resilience and ensuring the interoperability of its Armed Forces in the event of the country’s possible future participation in international military missions and operations, including those deployed by the European Union.
The measure will make it possible to provide a full-fledged tent camp for a battalion-sized unit.
It is noted that due to this assistance, Armenia, in particular, would be able to provide a full-fledged tent camp for a battalion-sized unit.
“We have a common interest in further expanding our dialogue on foreign and security policy, also looking at Armenia’s future participation in EU-led missions and operations,” said European diplomat Josep Borrell.
The support will be provided within the framework of the European Union’s partnership with Armenia, which is based on the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
As previously reported, the Armenian army deployed French Bastion armored vehicles in joint exercises with the US military in July.
Armenia received armored vehicles of this type after the French company Arquus promised to transfer a certain number of such vehicles to Ukraine.
