The European Union has expressed concern that the initiative to supply Ukraine with 2 million artillery shells in 2025 has still not been executed.
Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, made this statement after a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council at the level of defence ministers, European Pravda reports.
“As for the ammunition initiative, I regret to say that we have not yet achieved the goal,” she said.
Meanwhile, the diplomat shared that one of the member states will make an additional decision in the coming weeks that will contribute to the joint initiative. This may partially improve the supply situation.
During the meeting, the Ministers also heard from Ukraine’s Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal, who outlined current needs and called on EU countries to step up their support for Ukraine.
According to Kallas, Ukrainian forces primarily need drones and other modern capabilities. At the same time, the issue of ammunition supply remains critically important.
In March, the European Union announced that it plans to supply Ukraine with at least 2 million artillery shells per year as part of its military assistance.
