The Estonian government supported the proposal of Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur and will provide Ukraine with the largest yet military aid package worth 113 million euros.
This was released on the Estonian government’s website.
This aid package includes howitzers, ammunition, artillery support vehicles, and grenade launchers.
Thus, the cumulative assistance from Estonia to Ukraine will amount to 370 million euros, or slightly more than 1% of Estonia’s GDP.
“With today’s decision, we are providing Ukraine with weapons that they need the most. Ukraine has asked for this help directly from Estonia. The need for this particular weaponry was also emphasized by President Zelensky at our recent meeting of the leaders of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Riga,” Kaja Kallas, Estonian Prime Minister, stated.
Kallas also noted the effectiveness of the use of military assistance by the Ukrainian military. She stressed that allies should focus on accumulating resources to help Ukraine.
Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur also emphasized Ukraine’s need for heavy weapons.
“Ukraine needs heavy weapons to maintain the initiative and withstand Russia, which is currently preparing to regain its military strength. The toughest battles are yet to come. We and our allies have a direct impact on the fighting capacity of Ukrainian soldiers, and this is highly valued in Ukraine. Therefore, it is important to set an example and motivate other allies to provide assistance,” Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defence, shared.
It is noted that Estonia is applying for funds from the European Peace Fund to replace the equipment.
In previous assistance packages, Estonia provided Ukraine with Javelin anti-tank missiles, howitzers, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, mortars, vehicles, communications equipment, medical supplies, and personal protective equipment.
Also, in cooperation with Germany, Estonia transferred two mobile hospitals and medical supplies worth almost 15 million euros to Ukraine.
Estonia will transfer the third mobile hospital to Ukraine in cooperation with the Netherlands and Norway, which supported the 7.8 million euros project.
