Strike drones attacked Russia’s Gazprom Ust-Luga, one of Europe’s largest gas processing plants, for the first time in 2026.
Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko announced this.
The strike took place overnight between March 24 and 25. Local residents said they heard about a dozen explosions in the port area and saw a bright glow in the night sky.
Closer to morning, a column of black smoke was seen rising above the facility.
According to the governor, Russian air defenses allegedly shot down 56 Ukrainian drones. At the same time, he described the fire at the port as minor, saying it is currently being brought under control.
The plant is located at coordinates 59.7091747, 28.4356830, approximately 900–1,000 km from Ukraine’s state border.
The Gazprom Ust-Luga facility processes up to 45 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, producing 13 million tons of LNG, 3.6 million tons of ethane, and 1.8 million tons of propane-butane.
Ukrainian drones have targeted this facility before.
The previous strike took place in August 2025. Earlier, in January 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) damaged gas condensate storage tanks, halting the terminal’s operational process.
Militarnyi previously reported a successful strike by attack drones on the main oil port of the Baltic Sea – Primorsk in Russia’s Leningrad region.
The operation took place overnight on March 23, 2026. Primorsk is Russia’s largest oil export port on the Baltic and a key hub for shipping crude oil.
Its throughput capacity reaches about 1 million barrels per day.
The port’s tank farm includes 18 large storage tanks, each with a capacity of 50,000 tons. Nine berths serve oil tankers with a deadweight of up to 150,000 tons.
