Kazan’s Kazanorgsintez chemical plant was the center of attention amid drone activity in Tatarstan in early January 2026.
The smoke on the plant’s territory was reported, among other things, on the Supernova+ Telegram channel.
On January 1-2, the region repeatedly declared a drone emergency, which is confirmed by official reports from the Russian authorities.
The Russian defense ministry announced that several drones were shot down over the territory of Tatarstan on January 1.
Against this backdrop, local telegram channels in Kazan once again drew attention to the Kazanorgsintez area, which had previously been hit by drones.
Users reported intensified air defense operations and traffic restrictions in the city’s industrial zone, particularly near a large chemical cluster.
There was no official confirmation of a new attack on Kazanorgsintez facilities on January 1-2, but the company continues to be listed as a potentially important target.
The plant is one of the key producers of polymers and chemicals in Russia and is important for industrial and defense logistics.
The company produces more than 170 types of chemical products, including ethylene, polyethylene, polycarbonate, phenol, acetone, ethylene glycol and other organic synthesis products.
The total production volume exceeds 1 million tons per year.
The largest share of revenue (about 70%) is accounted for by ethylene polymers and copolymers, as well as polycarbonates (16%), which are used in the Russian defense industry.
As a reminder, the SSU of Ukraine recently attacked Russian oil production platforms in the Caspian Sea three times in one week.
