In the early hours of July 25, drones targeted the Nevinnomyssk Azot chemical plant in Russia’s Stavropol Krai. The facility is reportedly part of the country’s explosives production supply chain.

The incident was reported by independent outlet Astra, while footage of the drone strike has been circulating on social media.

Nevinnomyssk Azot is one of the largest chemical plants of its kind in the region.

Local residents reported hearing multiple explosions and seeing flashes near the chemical plant.

Later, the city’s mayor released a video showing the plant’s grounds from a distance and praised the “factory workers,” indirectly confirming that the target of the drone strike was indeed Nevinnomyssk Azot.

He also claimed that there were allegedly no casualties or damage.

Analysts from the Dnipro OSINT group ⟨Harbuz⟩ confirmed the drone strike by analyzing video footage. They suggest that Ukrainian drones may have hit the “Acetylene Production and Workshop No. 9 – Acetaldehyde Unit” at the Russian chemical plant.

According to Astra, citing Reuters, the targeted facility supplies nitric acid to the Sverdlov Plant in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region – a key component used in the production of powerful explosives such as HMX (octogen) and RDX (hexogen). These explosives are used in a variety of munitions.

This was the second drone attack on the Nevinnomyssk Azot chemical plant in the past two months. The previous strike occurred on June 14, forcing the plant to temporarily shut down operations.

Nevinnomyssk Azot is the largest producer of nitrogen fertilizers and ammonia in Russia and is part of the EuroChem Group. It also manufactures dual-use products.

The plant’s total production capacity exceeds 1 million tons of ammonia and 1.4 million tons of ammonium nitrate per year. Urea production reaches 890,000 tons annually.

The facility is located 650 kilometers from Ukrainian-controlled territory and plays an active role in supporting Russia’s defense industry.
