On the night of November 20, Ukrainian drones attacked the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of the largest in Russia.

The Exilenova+ Telegram channel reported this, and Astra also confirmed the overnight attack.

Shortly after 2 a.m., eyewitnesses began reporting a series of explosions in the city and the region, saying the local oil refinery had come under attack again.

Residents also saw what appeared to be a fire on the refinery’s grounds after the strike.

Later, the governor of the Ryazan region confirmed that a drone attack had targeted one of the local industrial facilities, though he did not specify which one.

According to him, a fire broke out on the facility’s premises, allegedly caused by debris from downed drones.

“Last night, air defense and electronic warfare systems destroyed UAVs over the territory of the Ryazan region. Due to falling debris, a fire broke out on the grounds of one of the enterprises. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties, and material damage is being assessed. Emergency services are working at the scene. Debris fell in several districts of Ryazan,” the head of the region wrote.

The Ryazan oil refinery has repeatedly been the target of Ukrainian drone attacks. The previous attack occurred during the night of November 15. Before that, it was targeted on the night of October 23.

Ryazan Oil Refinery

The Ryazan Oil Refinery is one of the largest in Russia (located about 470 km from the Ukrainian state border).

In 2024, it processed approximately 13.1 million tonnes of crude oil (about 262,000 barrels per day), which accounts for around 5% of the country’s total refining volume. Rosneft owns the facility.

The refinery includes four primary oil-processing units, as well as equipment for vacuum gas oil hydrotreating, cracking, catalytic reforming, and other complexes used to produce various products, including bitumen, LPG, sulfuric acid, and catalytic reforming products.

This refinery is a major supplier of motor fuel for the regions surrounding the Russian capital.
