A dispatch building at a railway station caught fire in Russia’s Volgograd region following a drone attack on the Archeda railway junction.

The Astra media outlet reported on this.

The targeted Archeda railway junction, located in the city of Frolovo, holds historical significance for domestic transportation within the Russian Federation and serves as one of the key hubs for long-distance routes deeper into the country.

During the attack, the drones also struck relay cabinets that provide automatic train traffic control and ensure the safe management of railway operations.

Due to the damage to this equipment, train traffic in the affected section may be halted or restricted, potentially leading to significant delays – including for transport routes involved in delivering supplies to the Russian Armed Forces.

It should be noted that this attack is part of a broader series of strikes targeting Russian railway infrastructure, which plays a crucial role in the logistics of the Russian military. The railway remains one of the few viable means for mass transportation of equipment and personnel from Russia’s remote regions.

In addition, the railway network is actively used to transport military equipment supplied to Russia by North Korea. Disruptions to train traffic could negatively impact these logistical flows.

On August 2, 2025, strike drones attacked the Likhaya-Zamchalovo traction power substation in the Rostov region, which is used by Russians to support the occupation forces in Ukraine. The attacked substation is located near the village of Uglerodovsky and feeds the railway line that runs electric trains in this direction.

The rear areas near the border have become key elements of the logistics infrastructure that supports the conduct of hostilities. One of these areas is Likhaya-Zamchalovo, a district in the southeast of the Rostov region, located 50-70 km from the border with the occupied territories of Ukraine.

Freight trains with equipment, ammunition, and personnel are sent through Likhaya station to the occupied Donbas.

On July 21, 2025, strike drones targeted a key railway hub in the urban-type settlement of Kamenolomna, located in Russia’s Rostov region. The station is located in southern Russia, along the route Rostov-on-Don – Taganrog – Donetsk, and plays an important role in the transportation of military equipment.

The targeted site is situated approximately 38 kilometers from the Ukrainian state border.

Russia is currently restoring railway lines in the temporarily occupied territories, primarily in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. For example, the new railway connection between Rostov-on-Don and Crimea is being laid by Russia through occupied territories, including through Berdiansk.

Its aim is to reduce dependence on the Crimean Bridge and ensure safer transportation of military cargo to replenish Russian forces in Ukraine with equipment and improved logistics.
