The Danish government has decided to allocate DKK 300 million (nearly €40 million) to an innovation fund for Ukraine.

The Danish Ministry of Defence explained that the fund would support Ukraine’s growing need for rapid technological development on the battlefield.

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen held consultations with the Foreign Policy Committee ahead of the decision, which supported the allocation of DKK 300 million.

The innovation fund will primarily focus on rapidly evolving technological fields, such as electronic warfare and drones, where new advancements have a significant impact on the battlefield.

“There is no doubt that Ukraine has a great need to counter the massive pressure it is facing on the front lines from Russian forces. Developing new technological solutions on the battlefield is one way Ukrainians can balance Russia’s advantage, and the funds from the innovation pool will help achieve this. It is important that we continue to support Ukraine so that it can keep fighting for freedom,” said Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

Given Russia’s significant material and human advantage since the start of the war, Ukrainians have been forced to develop new technologies, but they have also relied on foreign knowledge, capital, and cooperation.

Denmark has played an important role as one of the largest donors of military support to Ukraine, and thanks to the Danish model, Ukraine’s own manufacturing potential has been strengthened.

“We were very inspired by how Ukraine managed to establish impressive arms production in such a short time. I personally visited arms manufacturers in Ukraine, and I believe we can learn a lot from the efficiency Ukrainians have achieved in three years of war,” said the Defense Minister.

“We are now advancing our cooperation with the innovation pool, and I am eager to see how we can further strengthen Ukraine’s fight for freedom in new ways, with this process primarily taking place in Denmark and in collaboration with the Armed Forces,” added Poulsen.

As previously reported, Denmark signed a contract with the Norwegian-Finnish defense company Nammo for shell production.

Nammo is one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in Europe, which should help Ukraine with artillery shells.

In 2024, it became known that Ukraine would also launch the production of 155mm shells using the technology of the Norwegian company Nammo.
