The Czech government has pledged to support Ukraine in enhancing its air defense capabilities to counter the growing threat posed by Russian drones.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala made the announcement during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin, as reported by Ukrinform.

Fiala underscored the critical importance of ensuring that Ukraine receives sufficient military aid to defend itself effectively.

He also noted that Czechia will deepen its cooperation with Germany – one of the main suppliers of air defense systems to Ukraine, including IRIS-T SLS, SLM, Skynex, Gepard, and others.

“We also want to work together with Germany to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, particularly in countering drones used by the Russians to terrorize civilians,” Fiala noted.

Meanwhile, Czechia plans to expand its role in supporting Ukraine. While the country previously focused primarily on the initiative to procure artillery ammunition, Prague will now also participate in implementing agreements to supply air defense systems.

It is worth noting that Germany has already announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes, among other items, 200,000 rounds of ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft systems.

In addition to receiving Gepard ammunition as part of international military aid, Ukraine is also purchasing it directly from the German defense company Rheinmetall.
