The State Military-Industrial Committee of the Republic of Belarus has modernized Cuban S-125 surface-to-air missile systems.
This was reported on the Committee’s official Telegram page.
Specialists from the ALEVKURP enterprise successfully performed the modernization of the S-125-2BM Pechora-2BM air defense missile systems, and the system itself successfully passed factory tests.
According to the State Military-Industrial Committee, four missiles were launched from the missile system during the tests, successfully hitting training air targets, thus confirming the declared characteristics.
It was also noted that, in addition to air targets, the S-125-2BM Pechora-2BM provides firing at ground and surface targets and targets with known coordinates.
It should be noted that, according to available information, Cuba has 144 S-125 launchers in service, which the country’s armed forces have used for a long time.
These relatively outdated systems are being modernized by upgrading their electronics, adding new target tracking capabilities, improving the semi-active radar homing seeker, and extending the missile’s service life.
In addition to Belarus, Vietnam is currently capable of independently maintaining missiles of this type, having developed its own large-scale program to extend the service life of missiles and upgrade their systems.
Militarnyi previously reported that Vietnam had mastered the repair of Soviet anti-aircraft missiles and some of their electronic components.
Work on the missiles is being carried out at the A31 plant in Hanoi, which is subordinate to the Vietnamese Air Force and is the leading enterprise providing technical support for missile weapons. First and foremost, work is being carried out on missiles for anti-aircraft systems such as the S-75, S-125, S-300, and other types.
Today, the most widespread means of air defense in Vietnam remains the S-125 systems in the Pechora variant, of which there are 51 launchers, according to Military Balance 2024.
In addition, experts have started upgrading the missiles to the S-125VT version, which specialists from the Vietnamese company Viettel are improving. Most of these missiles are refurbished, using Vietnamese-made electronic components and circuit boards.
