The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov shared insights of the historic meeting of the Allies at the Ramstein base.
“This is one of the events that determines future of our state” – the official wrote on his Facebook page.
The minister’s key conclusion is that the coalition in support of Ukraine against the “Kremlin evil” is growing stronger.
More than 40 countries took part in the meeting, including Ukraine’s partners from Africa, the Middle East, the Persian Gulf and the Asia-Pacific region.
During the meeting, participants led by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Millie, discussed three blocks of issues. Both short-term and strategic.
First. The Advisory Council on Defense of Ukraine was established. It will operate on permanent basis. This will speed up the acquisition of weapons and improve logistics.
“For example, when decisions are made to provide Ukraine with certain weapon, due to proper coordination weapons of the same type will come from different countries. Conventionally, several countries will provide 3-4 guns, and in total Ukraine will receive artillery division” – Reznikov explained.
Second. Strategic decision was made on Ukraine’s transition to NATO weapons. In the near future, Ukraine will begin to switch to 155-mm caliber artillery. This will strengthen Ukraine’s compatibility with the armies of NATO countries and will be a “de facto” manifestation of the integration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces into the Alliance. The Minister noted that it is not only about the supply of weapons, but also about the prospects of their production:
“We talked a lot about the production of weapons and military equipment, Ukraine’s role in these processes. After all, this is the basis for long-term cooperation, interaction and compatibility of not of the Armed Forces alone, but also of the defence industry.
Third. Training of the Ukrainian servicemen for the use of Western weapons has begun. This work has been in progress for some time, and now it will be scaled. Moreover, as the Minister noted, even with those types of weapons transition of which has not been politically approved yet. So by the time the decision is stamped, the Ukrainian servicemen will be ready to adopt the transferred equipment.
Reznikov said that Ukrainian soldiers have already surprised Allies with their professionalism. He shared some interesting facts about the training routine of our soldiers abroad:
“Our artillerymen, who were training on a 155-mm ACS at the training site in one of the countries, hit the target with the first shot. And then they helped foreign colleagues to improve the computer program that controls this ACS.
The minister said the historic changes will “materialize in the coming weeks”.
