Chatbot Based on Grok AI to be Integrated into Pentagon Networks

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced that the Grok chatbot, created by Elon Musk’s company, will be integrated into the Pentagon network alongside Google systems.

This decision has sparked a wave of criticism, as Grok has recently been at the center of a scandal over anti-Semitism and the creation of sexualized deepfakes without people’s consent, according to Stars and Stripes.

Hegseth said he rejects models that “do not allow warfare,” adding that the Defense Department’s AI (artificial intelligence) will not be limited as it is for civilians.

Musk positions Grok as an alternative to what he calls competitors — Google Gemini and ChatGPT.

Several countries have already responded to issues with Grok. Malaysia and Indonesia have blocked access to the chatbot, and the British online safety regulator has launched an investigation. In response, Grok has restricted image generation features to paying users only.

In December 2025, the Pentagon announced the launch of a new website, GenAi.mil, which will provide generative AI tools to all military personnel.

Emil Michael, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, the agency’s chief technology officer, wants GenAI to be used for processing classified data as well.
