The Ukrainian company Carmine Sky has deployed towers equipped with Sky Sentinel remotely controlled turrets across Ukraine as part of private air defense.
This is reported by the Ukrainian edition of Deutsche Welle.
The automatic turrets, based on the M2 Browning machine gun, are controlled using a gaming controller, and images are transmitted by a camera with machine vision capabilities.
The turrets independently identify targets and lock onto them, while the operator—who may be hundreds of kilometers away from the site—merely confirms the order to open fire.
According to Carmine Sky, the effectiveness of the Sky Sentinel systems currently stands at 85%.
“Our primary targets are Shahed drones, so that’s what we shoot down. Yesterday we shot down a jet-powered Shahed drone — anything that enters the turret’s range won’t fly any further,” said the company’s communications specialist.
He also added that Carmine Sky employs mainly civilians: couriers, police officers, and taxi drivers, as well as former military personnel.
