Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, has expressed support for strengthening cooperation between European countries in the Baltic-Black Sea region.

The Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine stated this in an interview with the Polish media Defence24.

Answering the question of whether Ukraine and Poland can do more to strengthen the security of Eastern and Central Europe, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine stated:

“It is certainly possible. We can discuss the progress of developments in the context of the Baltic-Black Sea Belt and various initiatives within the Three Seas – all of which relate to our region on the one hand and global security in Europe on the other. New times bring new challenges to which we must respond.”

When asked about the possibility of new alliances, Budanov noted that “new challenges require new approaches to solving them” and, discussing cooperation between Ukraine and Poland, suggested that “perhaps over time, it will turn into something more.”

At the same time, the Head of Defense Intelligence is convinced that the European security system would not be possible without the involvement of Ukraine and its Armed Forces.

Budanov also noted that many of the current projects of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation cannot be made public.

He expressed his gratitude to Poland for supporting Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale invasion and noted:

“Every Russian tank destroyed by Ukrainians is a tank that did not go to war against Poland.”

The Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine shared that Russia is trying to drive a wedge between Ukraine and Poland.

“We have a common, great, and glorious history. And Russia has always been our opponent and often even an enemy. And together we have defeated it many times. We even captured Moscow,” Budanov reminded.
