The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense announced the transfer of an additional number of Brimstone 2 anti-tank missiles to Ukraine.
It was reported by The Guardian.
According to UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps, his country will transfer 200 Brimstone 2 guided anti-tank missiles to Ukraine.
Ukraine will receive missiles of this type in the near future. That will help ensure the enhanced anti-tank capabilities of the Ukrainian defenders.
Brimstone missiles have been used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2022, when Britain transferred the first batch of these missiles in the Brimstone 1 version.
Following that, the UK transferred Brimstone 2 missiles, which were equipped with a combined seeker and consisted of an active homing head and a semi-active homing head.
Since Ukraine does not have suitable carriers for missiles of this type, their use comes from mobile ground launchers, where a special frame is installed, on which a launcher with these missiles is attached.
In total, taking into account new supplies, the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom transferred about 900 Brimstone 1/2 missiles to Ukraine.
In addition, a specialized mobile ground launcher for missiles of this type is also being developed in Britain by RBSL and Supacat companies.
As Militarnyi reported previously, the manufacturer of modular vehicles, Supacat, and the manufacturer of missile weapons, MBDA UK, are preparing for the start of serial production of a new self-propelled ATGM.
As part of the Wolfram project to create a self-propelled anti-tank system, Supacat begins mass production of an anti-tank system on the HMT 600 platform.
The test of the system for the British Army should begin in 2024, and it will become part of the anti-tank platoon of infantry battalions of the new structure.
