The “Azov” National Guard Brigade was armed with modernized Ukrainian BMP-1TS infantry fighting vehicles.
BMP-1TS were used during the brigade’s organizational training.
Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of the 12th Special Forces Brigade were trained there.
“The Azovs are practicing armored vehicle assault, medical aid, and evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield,” the brigade shared.
The BMP-1TS has been fitted with a new Spys-Synthesis combat module instead of the old 73-mm gun.
The Ukrainian combat module is equipped with thermal imaging optics and a powerful stabilizer and carries a ZTM-1 30mm cannon, a KBA-117 automatic grenade launcher, and a Stugna ATGM.
Back in 2018, Tekhimpex began developing the Spys (Spear – ed.) combat module, which is designed to modernize the BMP-1.
It is assembled from Ukrainian components and in cooperation with several Ukrainian companies.
The main thing differentiating it from other domestic combat modules is the Synthesis fire control system from Digital Technologies. It is a new weapon stabilizer, weapon control system, and optoelectronic module.
The system features automatic target acquisition and tracking. In combination with the precise and smooth operation of the stabilizer, a new level of firing efficiency was achieved, both from a standstill and on the move, as well as when overcoming water obstacles.
At the defining departmental tests, all firing was performed with “excellent” marks, including during the firing of the ATGM in motion.
As a reminder, the newly launched 150th Mechanized Brigade also saw new BMP-1TS infantry fighting vehicles.
