On the morning of Friday, 11 August, a UAV was spotted in Moscow’s airspace.
Russian Telegram channels reported about this.
Eyewitnesses posted videos and photos of the drone on social media.
The airspace over Moscow’s Vnukovo airport was closed, with departures and arrivals being postponed.
The Russians have announced the “Carpet” plan, which is designed to deal with unidentified aircraft or other objects in the sky that could pose a threat to aviation flights.
Subsequently, reports of the drone’s explosion near Karamyshevskaya embankment emerged on social media.
The drone was reportedly flying from the direction of the Istrinsky district of Moscow region and was previously filmed by eyewitnesses near the village of Pavlovskaya Sloboda, Moscow Region.
Local authorities said that one aircraft was shot down by Russian air defence over Moscow.
“One drone attempted to fly over the city. It was neutralized by the air defence systems. No one was injured when the wreckage fell in the Karamyshevskaya embankment area,” said Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
He added that “there is no serious damage”. Emergency services are working at the scene. According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the UAV was suppressed by electronic warfare.
The footage of the drone’s flight was published in the Telegram channels of the aggressor country. Another video also shows smoke rising between the buildings. Presumably, it is from the UAV crash.
It can be heard on the video that Moscow residents filming from their windows say: “This is a drone”.
