Another brutal murder of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by Russian criminals has been confirmed.
Sviatoslav Palamar, Deputy Commander of the 12th Special Operations Brigade “Azov” of the National Guard of Ukraine reported on this.
He refers to the tortured Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Ishchenko, who was mobilized to the 12th Special Operations Brigade “Azov” on February 27, 2022.
“This is not just another cynical violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War by the Russians. This is a blow to human honor and dignity, to international law, to the principles and values we defend on the front lines,” Palamar said.
The documents, published with the consent of the tortured hero’s wife, Olena, state that Oleksandr died as a result of shock, multiple rib fractures, closed blunt trauma to the chest, and injuries caused by contact with a blunt object.
“Everyone should know about this case, from the United States to China. The killings of Ukrainian prisoners of war should be the number one topic in the world media and on the agenda of international organizations. Only publicity, pressure on the Russians, and the return of our prisoners home can stop these killings,” Palamar concluded.
Oleksandr Ishchenko, 55, a driver of the 12th Special Operations Brigade “Azov,” died in a pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don, as reported on July 31. His death was only reported a few weeks later.
In connection with the death of the Ukrainian defender, Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, appealed to Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova to clarify all the circumstances of the death.
Ukraine was not officially informed about Ishchenko’s death and its cause.
Militarnyi reported at the beginning of July that the Russian invaders executed over 110 Ukrainian soldiers after they surrendered.
The International Criminal Court is working with Ukrainian investigators to investigate the torture and ill-treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russian prisons.
The torture of Ukrainian POWs in Russian detention centers is becoming systemic and shows that it is an integral part of Russia’s policy.
