Israel’s air threat early warning system may be installed within four months.

The Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel, Yevhen Korniichuk, voiced this in an interview with The Times of Israel.

Speaking about his dialogue with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Eli Cohen, Korniichuk said that he emphasized to the minister that the timeline for the system was simply not good enough.

“Listen, we are in a cruel war now. We have been talking about this [getting the system] publicly for six months. This is not something that we are speaking about secretly. We’ve been promised to get it, and we’re still not there,” he said.

The ambassador also said that the initial deployment will be a pilot that at best will cover a city like Kyiv. If everything works well, the system will later be delivered to other regions of Ukraine.

According to Korniichuk, this is the same system that has been used in Israel for a long time. But the Red Color alert system, also known as Tzeva Adom, is specially adapted to our realities.

Tzeva Adom is designed to detect missiles as well as drones. The trajectory of the movement is tracked with the radars that monitor the airspace in the direction of the territories from which shelling is usually carried out. The system also calculates the time of approach – the siren gives a special signal that indicates how many minutes/seconds people have to hide.

One of the significant advantages of this system is its ability to calculate a relatively precise time and place of impact for launched missiles, which allows the area of operation of the warning system to be localized to a specific city.

However, the operating conditions and capabilities of this system in Ukraine will differ because of the weapons’ specifics used by Russia against Ukraine.

During terrorist attacks on Israel, unguided ballistic missiles for the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers and self-made Qassam rockets are usually used. Such missiles always fly along a ballistic trajectory, so it is possible to calculate their direction of movement and the place of impact in advance.

The conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war differ: the main means of terror of the Russians are cruise missiles, which in their design are more like classic airplanes and can repeatedly perform maneuvers and change the direction of flight. Therefore, it is impossible to calculate the places where they hit.

Currently, the Ukrainian Air Force is responsible for identifying potential air threats in Ukraine. For this, they use various sources, but the main ones are radar, data from Ukrainian intelligence and partner countries, said the spokesman of the Ukrainian Air Force Yuriy Ihnat.

The military determines the missile’s launch site, possible type, and range. An approximate course is also predicted, which makes it possible to determine areas that are threatened by danger.

“Between the moment of fixing the threat in the sky and the start of the siren can pass from several seconds to minutes. In fact, this is one phone call on special communication. After that, local authorities turn on the siren in the required regions,” explained Ihnat.
