Polish AHS Krab self-propelled artillery gun-howitzers are ready for combat missions at the front.
This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov.
The Minister noted that since February 24th, providing the Ukrainian army with weapons, ammo, military and special equipment has become the top priority.
The AHS Krab howitzers delivered by Poland are now ready to be used. The Armed Forces of Ukraine also received command vehicles for these self-propelled howitzers.
“I am happy to inform you that Polish AHS Krab self-propelled artillery units are ready to carry out combat missions at the front. Together with the M777, FH70, CAESAR, and M109A3, these units are the 5th type of 155 mm artillery that we’ve managed to obtain,” Oleksii Reznikov said.
According to the Minister, to this date, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has ensured the supply of 150 artillery platforms of 155 mm caliber to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The stockpiles of ammunition of this caliber are already 10% larger than the stockpiles of Soviet-type large-caliber shells that existed before February 24, 2022. These new shells are more effective than their Soviet equivalents, hence their consumption is lower.
At the same time, more than 50 other large-caliber cannons were supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These supplies have also included a significant number of projectiles, equal to more than 75% of the amount that existed at the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
It was also reported that dozens of Soviet-type multiple launch rocket units, tens of thousands of shells, hundreds of mortars, and hundreds of thousands of projectiles for them have strengthened Ukraine’s defense capabilities during this period.
The European Union will also partially cover the costs of the ACS Krab purchase for Ukraine, the Polish Prime Minister said. In the beginning of June it was announced that Ukraine will sign an agreement to acquire about 60 Krab 155-mm self-propelled gun-howitzers.
AHS Krab is a self-propelled tracked howitzer designed in Poland. The licensed British AS90 howitzer turret is being used in the Krab’s production. The barrel length is 52 calibers. It is mounted on the South Korean K9 Thunder ACS chassis.
It is stated that the effective range of fire is 30 kilometers, and the maximum is 40 kilometers. AHS Krab is manufactured by Huta Stalowa Wola, which is part of the Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa holding.
