Russia has positioned about 100 fighter jets and attack aircraft, including newer models, at the storage area of the Lipetsk airbase.
An analyst from The Military Watch published the satellite images.
As of early 2022, the storage site housed 57 MiG-29 fighters, 25 MiG-31 interceptors, two Su-24 bombers, three Su-25 jet aircraft, and seven Su-27 fighter jets.
The large number of MiG-29s is not unusual, as these aircraft are being gradually phased out in Russia and used for spare parts.
After the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine, some aircraft began disappearing from storage.
There has been a very interesting increase in the number of decommissioned aircraft stored at the Lipetsk AB. On 7 June 2022 on the sorage ramp total of 57x MiG-29, 25x MiG-31, 2x Su-24, 3x Su-25 and 7x Su-27 were observed. pic.twitter.com/LTaXlGE2F1

In particular, one MiG-31 has no longer appeared in satellite imagery; it may have been used as a source of spare parts for upgraded MiG-31K aircraft, which serve as carriers for the Kinzhal missile.
Two MiG-29s were also removed, possibly to maintain the airworthiness of active aircraft or to fulfill export contracts. At the same time, two Su-24s and one Su-27 were added to the storage area.
In 2025, additional aircraft were recorded at the site: one MiG-29, three MiG-31s, four Su-24s, four Su-25s, as well as one Su-34 frontline bomber and eight aircraft from the Sukhoi family, at least four of which are believed to be Su-35 fighter jets.
The Su-34 has been at the storage site since October 2024. It is possible that the aircraft was damaged during strikes on its home airbase.
In August 2024, one aircraft of this type was seriously damaged during an attack on the Morozovsk airbase.
On February 10, it was reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces had concentrated a significant portion of their Su-57 fighters at the Dzyomgi airbase in Russia’s Khabarovsk region.
The images show 15 Su-57 fighters parked in the open. In addition, the airbase hosts 18 Su-35S aircraft, three MiG-31BM interceptors, and two Mi-8 helicopters.
