Soldiers of the 54th Mechanized Brigade, part of the 11th Army Corps, eliminated a Russian observer-shooter team that had set up an ambush in Ukraine’s Donetsk region.
Video of the operation was released by the Nebesna Kara (Heavenly Punishment) unmanned systems battalion.
The snipers were targeted with an FPV drone. They attempted to conceal themselves under camouflage netting, but this instead revealed their position. One sniper was likely killed immediately, while the second suffered critical injuries.
A observer-shooter team is the smallest tactical unit used for precision fire and observation.
The sniper acts as the shooter and is responsible for accurately engaging designated targets. The spotter is responsible for detecting targets, assessing the situation, and providing the sniper with information and support.
Snipers from at least three units of the Russian army use Canadian-made Cadex sniper rifles.
Despite sanctions, the Russian importer continued to receive new shipments of weapons; indirect evidence points to possible logistics routes through the United States and Kazakhstan.
