Following the meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group, new contributions to the PURL initiative aimed at purchasing American weapons for Ukraine reached at least $422 million.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

According to him, more than half of NATO member states have taken or have already declared financial participation in PURL.

Separately, the partners announced new contributions for the purchase of weapons from the Ukrainian defense industry totaling $715 million.

Norway is allocating $600 million for the purchase of drones, electronic warfare systems, and explosives.

The Netherlands is allocating $106 million for strike and reconnaissance UAVs.

Canada is adding $8 million for interceptor drones, and Iceland is contributing $4 million as part of the so-called “Danish Model.”

At the same time, the partners announced new military assistance packages. Sweden allocates $8 billion for security support to Ukraine in 2026-2027.

Czech is forming a new aid package worth $72 million. Canada allocates $20 million for winter gear and missile components. Portugal is transferring $12 million to the UK’s IFU fund for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine, and Finland is preparing its 13th military support package.

“I am grateful to UK Secretary of Defense John Gillie and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for their leadership, support and development of the Ramstein meetings. I am sincerely grateful to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, US Secretary of War Pete Hagel and each participating country for their contribution to saving lives and bringing sustainable peace closer,” Shmyhal said.

The PURL is a list of Ukraine’s priority defense needs, which is compiled by the Ukrainian military together with NATO representatives. It defines what weapons systems, equipment, ammunition, technology or other resources the Armed Forces of Ukraine need in the short term.

This initiative actually serves as a bridge between the needs of the Ukrainian army and the capabilities of the allies, providing balanced and timely support for effective combat operations.

On July 14, the United States and NATO signed an agreement that provides for the supply of American weapons to Ukraine at the expense of European partners.
