Russia launched a strike on Lviv during the night of January 8–9, as a ballistic threat was declared across the entire country.

Explosions were reported around 11:48 p.m. on local social media.

At 11:35 p.m., the Ukrainian Air Force declared a warning about the threat of ballistic missile strikes from the enemy across all of Ukraine.

At 11:49 p.m., the Mayor of Lviv, Andrii Sadovyi, reported a series of explosions in Lviv.

‘After the air alert was declared, a series of explosions were heard in Lviv,’ wrote Mayor Andrii Sadovyi later on his Telegram page.

He added that the information on whether these were missile strikes, and the specific area where this occurred, is currently being clarified.

The monitoring resource mon1tor_ua clarified that the missile traveled approximately 1,800 km from Astrakhan to Lviv in 10-15 minutes. Therefore, if this was indeed a missile, it was a strike by a medium-range ballistic missile of the Oreshnik type or an equivalent.

The head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, later wrote that Russia struck a critical infrastructure facility in the city.
