The German Ministry of Defense has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes HIMARS rocket systems.

The German Ministry of Defense reported on this.

As part of the new military aid package, Germany will provide Ukraine with a relatively large number of weapons, including tanks, armored personnel carriers, engineering equipment, and artillery systems.

As part of this package, Ukraine will receive three HIMARS rocket systems, which Germany has not previously transferred.

The armored vehicles will include 20 Marder 1A3 IFVs, 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks, as well as armored engineer vehicles, including Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicle (1 unit), WiSENT 1 MC mine clearing tanks (4 units), Biber bridge-laying tanks (2 units) and Pionierpanzer 2A1 Dachs armored engineer vehicles (2 units).

The new military aid package also includes air defense systems, including 1 battery of IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense systems, as well as two IRIS-T SLS launchers, which have already been transferred to Ukraine.

It should be noted that as part of the military aid package, Germany will provide Ukraine with three sets of AMPS self-protection systems for helicopters.

This system is a set of sensors mounted on the aircraft that provides Missile Launch Detection Sensors (MILDS), advanced control and display unit (ACDU) and Missile Approach Confirmation Sensor (MACS), which determines the range and speed of detected missiles and eliminates false sensor warnings.

In addition, the list of military aid includes:

  • 21 thousand rounds 155-mm ammunition;
  • 4 anti-drone sensors and jammers;
  • 4,000,000 rounds of ammunition for firearms;
  • MK 556 assault rifles;
  • 16 tankers Zetros;
  • 100 CR 308 rifles;
  • 85 HLR 338 precision rifles;
  • 100 night vision goggles;
  • 180 thousand rounds ammunition for HLR 338 precision rifles;
  • ammunition for the Marder IFVs and the Leopard 1 tanks;
  • IT equipment;
  • rescue boats;
  • material for explosive ordnance disposal.

The transfer of HIMARS takes place as part of the urgent sale of these rocket systems to Ukraine, which was announced in early May 2024.

At that time, the German government pledged to finance the purchase and delivery of three rocket systems to Ukraine worth $30 million.

The transfer of these systems will take place as part of a military aid package from Germany, which was announced on June 14, 2024.
