The SSU gave the former Deputy Head of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine a notice of suspicion. According to reports, he was sharing secret and top secret information on the current military and political situation in Ukraine with the enemy.

The detained used to hold the position of the Deputy Head of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine from 2008 to 2010. Later, he served in various positions as a civil servant in this agency and in the leadership of the State Space Agency of Ukraine.

The Major General is suspected of treason, assault on the life of a law enforcement officer, and illegal possession of weapons.

“Following invaders’ instructions, he collected classified information that circulated around the Ministry of Defense, including the information coming from the Defence Intelligence and the Sahaidachnyi National Academy of Ground Forces,” the Security Service of Ukraine said in its statement.

The Russian Federation was also interested in the intelligence on strategic facilities of the military industry complex of Ukraine.

The SSU detained the suspect in the early days of russia’s full-scale invasion. During the search of his workplace, he attempted to shoot the officers of the SSU’s investigative and operative team, who had arrived to conduct investigative actions.

“He was noticed by the russian special services due to his pro-kremlin views, which were formed when, in the times of the USSR, he studied at the Moscow Higher Military Command School and Frunze Academy,” the SSU emphasized.

The court has decided to keep the detainee in custody. The investigation is ongoing.

As previously reported, in mid-July, the State Bureau of Investigation detained Oleh Kulinich, former Head of the SSU Department in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, who was sharing intelligence information against Ukraine with Russian special services.
