The Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted artillery strikes at Russian invaders positions and destroyed their equipment and armaments.
Recently, Ukrainian gunners took down the position of the 2S7 “Pion” 203 mm self-propelled heavy artillery, or its retrofitted version 2S7М “Malka.”
This was reported by the Operational-Tactical Group “North.”
The Defense Forces released photos of the destroyed howitzer and artillery ammunition of the Russian invasion forces.
According to the photos, the invaders set up the self-propelled gun firing position in a forest strip in between two fields.
A boxed batch of 203 mm artillery ammunition for the Pion was found next to the howitzer.
Ukrainian intelligence used a UAV to spot the Russian artillery position disguised among the trees.
After determining the exact coordinates of the invaders’ self-propelled cannon, the Ukrainian artillery struck.
The photos show that as a result of artillery fire the Pion suffered serious damage to say the least. It was caused by explosions of the shells fired by the Ukrainian gunners. Some signs of fire are also noticeable.
2S7 “Pion” 203 mm is a self-propelled heavy artillery designed to destroy certain especially important objects and fortifications.
The main armament is the 203 mm 2А44 gun, which has a maximum rate of fire of 1.5 rounds per minute (on the upgraded version it’s up to 2.5 rounds per minute). It carries an externally mounted 2A44 203 mm gun on the hull rear. Piston gate is located in the breech. Gun barrel and recoil mechanism are in the carriage.
It uses originally designed chassis, partly based on T-80 design and consists of seven pairs of road wheels and six pairs of single support rollers.
