Zelenskyy: Ukrainian Forces Repel Offensive and Push Back Russians in Sumy Region

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the successes of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in advancing within the Sumy region.

He shared this in his evening address on September 14th, 2025, and expressed gratitude to the soldiers of several units.

The President emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces units continued to advance toward the state border in the Sumy region.

Zelenskyy also extended his thanks to the soldiers of the 225th Separate Assault Battalion and the 71st Jaeger Brigade, who are currently engaged in active combat operations in the area.

“As of today, we can confirm that the Russian offensive operation on Sumy has been completely thwarted by our forces. Fighting continues in the border areas of the Sumy region, but the Russian grouping in the Sumy sector has lost its offensive capabilities due to the losses sustained,” the President reported.

According to the DeepState resource, Ukrainian troops have made a breakthrough toward the border town of Kostiantynivka, placing it under partial encirclement.

In August 2025, the Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted successful counteroffensive operations and liberated the settlements of Stepne and Novokostiantynivka. In the same month, Ukrainian defenders fully liberated and cleared the border village of Bezsalivka from the invaders.
