Since the beginning of the full-scale war with Russia, 43 thousand Ukrainian servicemen have been killed.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi wrote about this on his Telegram page.

These are the soldiers who died after February 24, 2022, in the confrontation with the Russian invaders.

In addition to the number of deaths, the President of Ukraine also mentioned the number of cases of medical aid to wounded soldiers:

“Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has lost 43 thousand soldiers who died on the battlefield. 370 thousand cases of assistance to the wounded, considering that in our military, about 50 percent of the wounded return to the ranks, and all injuries, including light and repeated ones, are recorded,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi wrote.

He emphasized that this number includes repeated treatment of the wounded.

“Our people are defending their home at the cost of their lives, and every life of our soldiers and our civilians is valuable to us,” the President summarized.

On the second anniversary of the beginning of large-scale Russian aggression in February this year, Volodymyr Zelenskyi quoted that 31 thousand Ukrainian servicemen had died in the war.

“31 thousand Ukrainian soldiers died in this war. Not 300 thousand, not 150 thousand, as Putin and his lying circle are saying, but nevertheless, each of these losses is a great loss for us,” the President said.

These losses of the Ukrainian Defense Forces do not include missing servicemen and women. As of April 2023, more than seven thousand Ukrainian servicemen and women were reported missing. Unfortunately, this number continues to grow.

In the course of prisoner-of-war exchanges, servicemen who were considered missing were also returned to the territory controlled by Ukraine. One such case took place in July this year, and in the course of the exchange in early January, 48 soldiers who were considered missing returned to Ukraine.

Before the start of the large-scale Russian aggression, as of September 14, 2021, 4426 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and the Joint Forces Operation, according to the Book of Memory project.
