Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Kyiv.
Following the talks, Zelensky announced a new defense package that Ukraine would receive from Poland.
During Tusk’s visit to Kyiv on January 22, two sides held talks. They discussed all aspects of bilateral relations.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced some details of the meeting on his social media, including military cooperation.
“There is a new Polish defense package. We appreciate such constant aid. There is a new form of our cooperation for the sake of a larger scale of arms’ purchases for Ukrainian needs that is a Polish loan for Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
The President of Ukraine and the head of the Polish government also discussed the possibility of future joint arms’ production.
Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Poland for supporting Ukraine.
It is worth recalling that Poland had begun helping Ukraine to build up its defense capabilities even before the full-scale Russian invasion.
First of all, the Polish side supplied the Ukrainian military with Soviet-era armored vehicles, artillery, aircraft and their Polish versions. Warsaw also provided Kyiv with various small arms, ammunition, gear, and other military equipment.
In December 2023, the first official images of the Polish Rak self-propelled wheeled gun-mortar in Ukrainian Defense Forces, which is used to destroy Russian invaders, appeared.
Before receiving this gun-mortar, Ukrainian crews had been trained in Poland.
Also in January of this year, units of the State Border Service of Ukraine were reinforced with new ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns, presumably of Polish production in the ZU-23-2CP version.
