U.S. President Donald Trump has authorized American intelligence agencies and the Pentagon to assist Ukraine with target identification for missile strikes on Russian infrastructure.

The Wall Street Journal reported on this, citing U.S. officials.

American officials have also reached out to NATO allies, requesting that they provide similar support to Kyiv.

“The U.S. will provide Ukraine with intelligence for long-range missile strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, as the Trump administration considers sending Kyiv powerful weapons capable of hitting more targets within Russian territory,” the media notes.

The U.S. has long been sharing intelligence with Kyiv, but, as the report states, this new step in strengthening military support will make it easier for Ukraine to strike oil refineries, pipelines, power plants, and other infrastructure to deprive Russia of revenue from energy exports – particularly amid difficulties in advancing peace negotiations.

The United States is currently weighing the provision of Tomahawk and Barracuda cruise missiles to Ukraine, along with other U.S. air‑ and ground‑launched missiles with ranges of about 800 kilometers.

Officials stress that no final decision has yet been made regarding the supply of any particular weapons.
