Next week, U.S. President Joe Biden will unveil his request for additional military aid funding for Ukraine and Israel.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre made such an announcement, Reuters reports.
However, she did not provide any details of the upcoming request.
According to Reuters, the Biden administration is planning to ask Congress for additional money for military aid for Israel after Saturday’s attack by Hamas militants and for Ukraine, which has been fighting Russia’s invasion for 20 months.
Some Republicans have said they would resist efforts to tie aid for Israel to Ukraine aid.
“Some Republicans have said they would resist efforts to tie aid for Israel to Ukraine aid. Any funding measure must pass the U.S. Senate, led by Biden’s fellow Democrats, and the Republican-controlled House, which is facing a leadership crisis that prevents it from passing any measures,” Reuters wrote.
According to NBC News sources, Biden’s funding plan will also include money for Taiwan and the U.S. southern border.
As previously reported, U.S. senators from both parties intend to approve aid to Ukraine in the amount of between $50 and $100 billion in the coming weeks.
Such a package could be passed between October 16, when the Senate returns from recess, and November 17, when the current temporary spending bill expires.
Senators expressed limited optimism about the package’s passage. Its size is still being discussed.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin says the United States will be able to provide military assistance to Ukraine and Israel simultaneously.
“The United States will provide defense assistance to Israel while continuing to support the people of Ukraine in their fight against Russian aggression,” Austin said after a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.
